The Recovery

Nemo was designed to recover the treasure in every form possible. Gold dust and other small material were sucked up by a small sea-vac. Individual coins were retrieved by a suction-picker at the end of a flexible arm, while the padded manipulator claw was used to lift heavy items, including the massive ingots.

Once the treasure was retrieved, the spoils were placed in trays and stored in a drawer within Nemo for the 90-minute trip up to the surface and some-where beyond. The final question is: What will be the final resting-place for these massive treasures?

Today, the "Eureka" bar has traveled the nation under heavy security. It has been the highlight of museums, nationwide television productions and radio broadcasts, which have inspired thousands of people to become new collectors of rare gold coins and bars. Attendance figures at national coin shows have soared as people flock to view this incredible gold ingot. It is the centerpiece of the SS Central America treasure; many have nicknamed it the "Crown Jewel" from the Ship of Gold.
